Felt Hobby Horse
More Than a Hobby
There’s nothing like watching a child slip into their own little imaginative world, and our Felt Hobby Horse is the perfect companion for tackling those everyday adventures. Whether galloping through prairies in search of bad guys or leisurely trotting through the backyard to look for bugs, this DIY project invites the kind of creativity and storytelling that’s harder and harder to find these days. If you love crafting felt toys — or want to explore more of our adorable felt animals and stuffies — this project is a charming addition to your handmade collection.

We consider this Felt Hobby horse a medium-difficulty project and a wonderful introduction to making larger, fully three-dimensional felt creations. If this is your first 3D project, take heart — just trust the process and keep sewing! The design is based on Krista’s beloved Wild Horse, and you’ll recognize the same gentle curves and sweet expression that make her original so special. With a bit of patience and a good playlist, the whole piece comes together beautifully.
One detail we absolutely adore is the tiny white catch light stitched into the eyes. It’s such a simple touch, but it gives this Felt Hobby Horse its irresistible cuteness. It also adds warmth, personality, and that spark of life kids instantly connect with. It's these small accents that remind us just how powerful handmade toys can be.
Once finished, your Felt Hobby Horse is ready for some lucky cowboy or girl to ride around the pondarosa. Also, we encourage you to personalize the colors, add decorative reins, or stitch on tiny markings to make it uniquely theirs.
We truly can't wait to see how you bring this sweet Felt Hobby Horse to life! Share your finished project with us using the hashtag #MadeWithLia on all social media platforms, and don’t forget to post in our crafters’ community so we can inspire each other this holiday season!

Back to the TopLia,
This horse is TOO cute and I know my 2 grandsons age 31/2 and 1 1/2 will just love this and the bridle is a wonderful touch. You are so talented and creative.
Judy Henson
Thank you Judy, I’m so glad you like it!!
How do you make the bridle and do you sew it or glue it to the horse after its made, and is it also made with felt.
Hi! I don’t have a pattern for the bridle but just used a fun denim ribbon that I found at the fabric store. I glued it on but you could certainly sew it!
Bonjour,
Je souhaiterais réaliser le cheval bâton pour l’anniversaire de mon fils mais je ne trouve pas le patron à imprimer, pouvez vous me le faire parvenir ?
Merci beaucoup
Happy Birthday to your son! The pattern is at the bottom of this post https://liagriffith.com/diy-felt-stick-horses/
Hi! I couldn’t find the printable pattern to download. Please send it to me or tell me were to find it. I already bought all the materials and I´m looking forward to accomplish these horses for my boy´s 1st bday next month.
Thanks in advance.

Daniela
