Felt Lotus Flower
The lotus is a beautiful flower that roots itself in the mud and rises up to bloom above the water. Unlike most flowers, you can’t keep this one in your home as a cut bloom. So the only way to enjoy it is to craft your own version! Since we have already made a paper lotus, Krista has designed a felt lotus flower for this month’s collection.
When you’re ready to make this flower, just check out our supplies list below. Then follow the tutorial at the end of the post!

Lotus be at peace
While we do a lot of crafting for fun, we also like to look at the origin of and meaning behind what we make. The lotus flower is symbolic in Buddhism and meditation practices, representing non-attachment and enlightenment. It's also an important symbol in Hinduism, standing for purity and peace.
Our pattern and tutorial below will show you how to make a felt lotus flower as well as the leaves and pod. Once assembled, you can arrange them altogether in a pretty vase with a wide neck or a low planter.
Skill level: Intermediate
Crafting tip: We recommend using a cutting machine if you're making more than one felt lotus due to the amount of petals needed for each flower.

How to Make a Felt Lotus Flower
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the pattern on the right hand side at the top of this post.
- Cut out felt according to template using a cutting machine with a rotary blade (recommended) or scissors.
- To make the flowers: Wrap and glue the lotus center pod piece around the tapered end of a thick stem wire, forming a cone shape. Stuff with a bit of fiber filling and glue on the top piece (the top edges do not need to match up).
- Fringe the stamen strip piece. If you used scallop scissors on the top edge, carefully cut down between each scallop.

HI Lia, I looked at the SVG file again, and the piece of the pod I previously wrote about is still missing. If you look at the PDF file, the piece that I cannot locate in the SVG file is called the Lotus POD – X1 (Juniper). Please take another look at the SVG file and tell me if you can find this particular piece. Thank you, Shannon
Hello Shannon. I just got on the phone with Krista to see if we could solve this issue as we both see that it is in the SVG file. It looks like Design Space is still having issues with dropping pieces from uploaded SVG files and we had hoped they had solved this issue before now. Krista suggested that until they do you can make that piece by creating a 1.75″ circle in Design Space. As long as the artwork is sized at 24″x12″ as noted at the top of the file, this piece should match the mysterious disappearing circle.
Hi. I am currently attempting to make the lotus flower, and one of the pieces is missing from the svg file. The green pod with the holes is missing the solid green round piece (without holes) that you need to make the pod. Can you please add that piece to the svg file?
Thank you,
Shannon
Hi Shannon. I did double-check the file, and they are all there. I do know that Cricut was having issues last week with deleting pieces in Design Space. When I just tested the file in DS, it looks correct. I recommend you restart Design Space and upload the SVG again.
Hi Lia,
Can I use crepe paper instead of felt with this SVG file? Thanks!
You could do that but might not need the slit on the petal as you can stretch for the shape.
