Crepe Paper Chocolate Cosmos Spray
Decadent Petals
The chocolate cosmos is a flower unlike any other. Its velvety texture and rich hues provide the perfect inspiration for fall. For this project, we wanted to create a crepe paper version that not only captures the elegance of the real flower but also feels like a complete arrangement all on its own. The result is our Crepe Paper Chocolate Cosmos Spray — an intermediate-level craft that lets you explore new techniques while working with one of our favorite fall-inspired palettes.

This Crepe Paper Chocolate Cosmos Spray begins with a layered stamen fringe at the center, which then sets the foundation for greater depth and detail. From there, the petals are then shaped from DIY double-sided crepe, made by laminating Merlot extra-fine crepe to create the perfect thickness. Both the petals and the leaves are then enhanced with subtle variations of PanPastel in two complementary shades, giving the finished flower a lifelike richness. If you’ve never tried making your own double-sided crepe before, this project is the perfect opportunity — and we’ve included a helpful video tutorial to guide you through the lamination process.
One thing we like about this project is how it balances simplicity with sophistication so beautifully. While the steps may be easy, the layered stamen, laminated crepe, and pastel shading combine to create a bloom that feels polished and professional. Additionally, the deep Merlot petals and lush Cypress leaves capture the warm, moody tones of fall, making this a standout seasonal project.
Since we designed this Crepe Paper Chocolate Cosmos Spray to shine on its own, we can’t wait to see how you display yours. Whether you style it as a single spray or combine it with other blooms, it makes a stunning statement. When you finish, don't forget to share your beautiful work with us using #MadeWithLia.

Leave a CommentWow this may be my new favorite flower. I’m mass producing them for my wreath. Can’t wait until its done. So happy I joined craft circle.
I love to hear that, Nancy! I want to be sure you all feel the value. 🙂
I just finished my morning lilac peonies now on to these little beauties. Love the gold, nice touch.
It adds a little holiday sparkle. 😉
The Design notes say to resize the artwork box to 7″ x 5.5″ but when I do that the design looks squished and small. When you upload the file the artwork comes in as 7.007 X 8.378. Which dimensions are correct? Thank you!
Oh! That might be my mistake. Let me double-check and I will get back to you.
Okay, I just looked at the file, then tested. It is correct in my design software, and it uploads into Design Space just fine. But then it is placed onto the canvas two of the groups move outside of the size box. I will see if I can do a workaround to see if I can keep that from happening (Cricut quirk), but for now, just use the 7 inches (or 7.07) wide.
Love the look but really find myself wishing for a short video. My main question though concerns which crepe to laminate. Obviously, the merlot, but is the sepal made of laminated cypress? The leaves? I assume not the stem wrap.
Yes! A video would be brilliant for this flower. On the PDF template, I broke out the shapes and noted which ones are made from the laminated crepe paper. Does that help? (P.S. We missed you at the summit this year! I even bought your sodas, lol).
I didn’t think about looking at the PDF! I will make sure to do that next time. I wish I could have made the summit this year but I’m going on vacation in a week and couldn’t manage both trips. Thanks for thinking of me
Have a wonderful vacation!
I see that there is an SVG for the leaf, but not for the flowers. Can we please get an SVG for the flower? Thank you!
Yes, some of our older projects came out before the Maker and do not have SVG files. We’re updating them as requests come in– so this one now has an SVG for the flowers available to download 🙂
Thank you!!
Thank you, Lia.
Loved your crafts & thank you for the templates. My family is so thrilled I am cheering others with your beautiful flowers .
You are so brilliant. God bless you.
These flowers are gorgeous & the heart shaped wreath using this same type of flower looks simple enough for even this “old beginner” to give it try! 🙂 I also forwarded the “Cosmos Flower Heart Wreath” email with the link to this page to my daughter-in-law who is having a ball decorating her & my son’s first home with the different seasonal looks. I also sent it to my daughter & other friends as well. They are all extremely busy – my daughter especially, who is doing her pediatric residency & just completed a 28-hour shift this morning in the pediatric ICU coronary care unit – and my friends are busy with caring for sick elderly parents & building 2nd homes in a different state. BUT – they can ALL still very much appreciate the beauty in the flowers you created!! Thanks for another lovely project!!
Thank you for your comment Diane, I really do hope our crafts are easy enough for beginners and those with busy schedules 🙂
So pretty! Can’t wait to try these 🙂
Thank you!
