Paper Spider Mums for Fall
Spider Mums are part of the chrysanthemum family, a late blooming flower that I just adore to see this time of year. It’s a flower I have wanted to make in paper for a while and I finally came up with a design I am happy with! The long, spindly petals of a spider mum can be daunting to cut but with a cutting machine it could not be simpler. I have included a PDF of this patterns as well because, although it will be time consuming, the pattern itself is a simple one to cut by hand.

I used a variety of golden yellow, orange and green in metallic paper for my paper spider mums and leaves. The chrysanthemum is such a retro flower in my mind so I wanted to play on that with this round of the design. As ever though my paper flowers can be made in any color and as long as you use a text-weight paper (card stock does not curl as well) the end result will look just gorgeous. Try them in whites for a simple yet elegant paper wedding flower, or in a variety of soft pastels for a cute window display.

I used the pearl paper “more” setting on my maker and it didn’t work well. I had to use my exacto knife on all of them.
I do NOT like the “pearl paper” setting. It is now double cutting which makes it super messy. I use the “light cardstock” setting.

I am making the Harvest Bouquet which leads me to this spider mum. I can not get the SVG file to load. I have downloads and tried three attempts. I realize this is an older file but this size looks best in the bouquet. Could it be having the Maker 3.
I just updated the file so it should work now. Let me know if it doesn’t.

Hello, I downloaded the SVG file, but it will not open on my silhouette cameo. Are the files only for circuts?
Hi! You will need to convert our SVG files to Studio files so they’ll work with the Cameo 🙂

I have tried these beautiful Paper Spider mums for fall. I used my cricut and I used the cricut Pearl Paper. It worked out beautiful. I loved making them they are so beautiful. Now I just need to figure out how to display them in a vase. Twila

These make beautiful flowers when i cut out had some rectangles but could not work out what they were for , these take a while to make but very much worth the effort .thankyou Lia
I’m so glad you like these, Carol! The rectangles were likely from the instructions in the SVG file. You just need to hide that layer before cutting and they’ll disappear 🙂

beautiful work ! how many grams schould be the paper for these flowers and for sunflowers ?
I would stay away from card stock and choose a text weight paper. They will not curl as well with a heavier stock. I can’t give you a gram as there is so much variation in papers.

Bummer, I though with their latest upgrade they would stop changing the sizes:( The largest flower/petal is between 5-6″, we did a couple of different sizes.
That’s what I was thinking and actually I guess you can make them any size you want. I ungrouped the images to pull the calyx and the leaf so they would cut on a different mat–to use green instead of the color of the flower. I seems that it takes 3 sheets to cut out the flowers, so I was wondering if I had the size correct. I did get my shipment of beautiful papers from Paper-papers, so I’m anxious to get started using them–what beautiful colors!!!
I’ll post when I have a few of them done–hopefully I’ll work on them this evening.

I downloaded the pattern but my cricut will not let me upload it.What am I doing wrong?
This might sound silly but make sure you downloaded the .svg file and not the pdf. In Cricut design space you click upload images > upload vector. That should work. If it doesn’t you need to contact the Cricut Customer Service team and ask them to help trouble shoot. Fingers crossed:-)
Im going to be making these beautiful flowers and using them as Thanksgiving napkin ties. They’ll make all of my guests happy.
