Layered Mushroom Watercolor Artwork
Morel Support
I’ve always loved how autumn encourages us to pause, take in the shifting light, and appreciate nature’s hidden details. Mushrooms, secretive and quietly thriving in the rich, dark earth, feel like the perfect emblem of the season. That’s why we’ve chosen them for this month’s free Crafternoon project with Emily and Anna — happening Friday, October 10th at 12 pm PT. Together, they’ll guide you through creating Layered Mushroom Watercolor Artwork, a project that combines watercolor painting with simple papercraft layering to craft a charming piece of seasonal art.

This Layered Mushroom Watercolor Artwork is wonderfully approachable, even if you’re new to watercolors. Just cut your mushroom shapes from watercolor paper, paint them in rich autumn hues, and then layer the pieces to create depth and dimension. The best part? There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to paint your mushrooms. Each one is unique, and the process encourages you to play with color, texture, and tone. It’s so meditative and a great way to dip your toes into the world of watercolor while creating something truly special.
Mushrooms themselves are fascinating symbols throughout folklore. They’re often connected to magic and mystery — little gateways to hidden worlds. Mushrooms can also carry meanings of transformation and interconnectedness, thanks to the intricate networks they form underground. In creating this piece, you’re bringing a little of that same quiet wonder into your home.
Once your Layered Mushroom Watercolor Artwork is complete, place it in a frame for a more polished finish. It makes a beautiful addition to a seasonal gallery wall or a cozy kitchen nook for an elegant cottagecore element. Additionally, you can experiment with different sizes and colors to create a series of mushroom artworks that celebrate the variety of these enchanting fungi.
We can’t wait to spend a joyful Crafternoon with you on October 10th to create this beautiful Layered Mushroom Watercolor Artwork. Join us live and don’t forget to share your masterpiece with the world using the hashtag #MadeWithLia.

Leave a CommentI love this and all of Emily’s watercolor creations! Beautiful!!
They are so fun to recreate!
NM, I went ahead and opened the file that looked solid black after I uploaded it and hid almost everything then it was finally left with the cuts that I needed.
Thanks for pointing that out. We can outline that box so it does not go black.
I’m confused. The e-mail I received said “join us for our FREE workshop Friday, October 10th at 12pm PT”. But, looking at this page, it looks like it is only for people with current memberships. The download area also says “Free Download”. I guess you’re just trying to find a way to get me to renew.
This is a free project for non-members. The only thing we ask for our free downloads is your email so we can track the downloads. The video will also be free.
Thanks! Can I not open the templates until the class time? I am trying to get them in advance so I’ll be ready. When I hit the download button a new window opens and there isn’t a way (that I see) to obtain the templates. I checked my website blocker and it should be okay.
The template downloads into your “download” folder on your computer. It is zipped so just double-click and it will open right up.
Weird. Every other project file downloads just fine. For some reason I can’t get this one. Not your issue. I’ll keep trying. I’ve checked all blockers and settings. Not making sense.
Yes, check your download folder on our computer.
I can get the download for every other project. For some reason this one won’t work. 🙁 It just keeps opening this same window in a new tab. I’ve rebooted, cleared cache, etc. I’ll sign into class anyway and watch all of your great tips. Thanks.
The template should be in your download folder on your computer. Have you checked there? If you do not see it there, can you tell me if you are using a PC or a Mac? I can see if our dev team can sort this out.
looking forward to this
See you there!
I’ve never done a water color crafternoon, I cant wait to learn!
It is becoming a community favorite!
This is a favorite! Will not be able to join crafternoon, but look forward to catching the video sometime later. Wow, so beautiful.
Yes! You can watch the replay!
How do I access the replay?
