It's time for a new winter holiday stuffie! Since we've made a classic felt reindeer in the past, Krista designed a new felt nordic reindeer (or what we know as caribou in North America). For those of you who don't know, Krista has family from Finland, and she has quite a few reindeer things around her house year-round! Due to the 3D construction and detailed antlers, this felt nordic reindeer is a great intermediate project and is similar to our felt moose. - Embroidery Floss — DMC Light Mocha Brown (3752), Light Brown(434), Ultra Very Light Mocha Brown (3866), Black (310), Dark Celadon Green (3815), Blue Green (502), and Very Light Shell Pink (224)
- Polyester Fiber Fill — Lia Griffith Stuffie Puff
- Black Safety Eyes — 6mm
- 24-Gauge Paper Covered White Wire
- Fabric Pen — Dritz Disappearing Ink
- Tacky Glue
- Tiny Jingle Bell — about 6mm

This felt nordic reindeer is inspired by the reindeer in norther nordic Lapland, which are domesticated, herded, and even raced. Our tutorial will help you capture just how cute this reindeer is. And — for that extra level of cuteness — Krista added an embroidered harness with decorative flowers and a tiny jingle bell.

Skill level: Intermediate

How to Make a Felt Nordic Reindeer
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the pattern on the right hand side at the top of this post.
- Cut out felt according to pattern using a cutting machine or scissors.
- Sew the legs to the underside piece using 2 strands of the tan embroidery floss and a whip stitch, working from what will be the inside of the legs. Match and follow the curve of the leg openings, and ensure that the legs are facing the right way.
- Repeat this for all of the legs.

What a sweet project for your granddaughter! My first thought that would get you the template quickly, is to put the downloaded PDF file onto a thumb drive and take it to your local office supply store for them to print for you. Ask them to print it full size (not “fit paper”) and you will be good to go! Let me know if that works or if you need more assistance. We are HERE for you!
I love this Nordic reindeer- reminds me of a children’s Christmas book by Jan Brett. I would like to make a larger version of him, but when I’ve sized the svg larger for other projects (witch peg dolls), not everything fits properly. Easy enough to adjust the peg dolls, but not so easy here. Any suggestions for how to get it all to size up properly? Should I just print everything at a larger percent?
You had to fit the wooden form with the dolls, but since this whole thing is made from felt, it should all scale correctly to make a larger version. I want to see a pic of your final larger version! 🙂
This is the cutest felt creature I’ve ever seen. Mine turned out wonderful even though I’m very inexperienced. Some time I’d really love to make another one with these exact colors and have two different ones.

Hi Leigh! We are working on one, but the manufacturer keeps discontinuing colors so we have to adjust. Stay tuned! 😉
