These Floral Embroidered Felt Bat Ornaments are a wonderful project if you’re brand new to embroidery. As you craft, you’ll practice classic stitches like the detached chain stitch for petals, backstitch for stems, the French knot for your bat’s eyes, and whip stitch to bring it all together. Once you have these simple stitches in hand, you’ll feel ready to take on even more embroidery projects.

One of my favorite products to use for a craft like this is Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy. If you’re worried about keeping everything nice and neat, this is a lifesaver. Simply print your pattern onto the stabilizer, stick it to your felt, and stitch right through it. When you’re finished, gently rinse it away with water. You’ll have a crisp floral design that transforms these nocturnal cuties from creepy to whimsical.

We designed our Floral Embroidered Felt Bats to use as ornaments, but that’s just one of many ways to enjoy them. String them into a fun Halloween garland, or tuck them into boo bags as a festive surprise. To keep things simple, we used black felt for our bat silhouettes and embroidery floss in autumnal shades of purple, copper, and gold. Of course, we encourage you to let your creativity guide the way as you make this project your own.

When you’re all finished, don’t forget to share your Floral Embroidered Felt Bats with us using the hashtag #MadeWithLia or in our crafters’ community.
