As stated above, the design of these Felt Seafood Clams is fairly simple but can be labor-intensive. So for that reason, we consider this an intermediate project. This addition to our felt food collection comes together with just four stitches: blanket, whip, double-running, and running stitch. At first glance, you may think the humble clam doesn’t offer very much inspiration. You can’t pet it, it doesn’t have a cute face (or a face at all), but they’re very interesting little creatures in their own right. Clams are “filter feeders,” which means they burrow into the sandy ocean floor and filter gallons of water each day to keep water bodies healthy and clear. Not to mention, they're an incredibly important food source for many marine animals and a staple of coastal cuisine. 

We used three natural shades of our heathered wool blend felt to create our Felt Seafood Clams. We highly suggest using contrasting embroidery floss to mimic their natural striations, resulting in a textured look that really pops and adds a realistic touch to each shell. Once you’re down sewing your pieces, stuff them with our Stuffie Puff using a chopstick or other stuffing tool to give your felt clam enough structure to hold its gently curve.
