Felt Hummingbird
Ho-Hum
To watch a hummingbird in motion is to witness something truly special. With shimmering feathers, rapid wings, and dart-like speed, they seem almost magical. These tiny birds are beloved here in the Pacific Northwest, especially in our gardens, where their presence brings an undeniable sense of joy. As a tribute to their vibrant energy, we’ve created this Felt Hummingbird for you to craft. With layered color and delicate stitching, this design adds a new friend to our beloved felt stuffie collection.

Though small in size, hummingbirds have a big presence in culture and nature. Native to the Americas, they appear in countless stories and traditions. For instance, in many Indigenous cultures, hummingbirds are seen as messengers from ancestors—symbols of love, joy, and good fortune. Moreover, their ability to visit hundreds of flowers daily makes them essential pollinators, reminding us that even the tiniest beings can bring about extraordinary abundance.
While there are hundreds of species in every color of the rainbow, we chose the familiar red and green coloring often spotted across North America. By layering rich felt tones, we recreated the bold plumage of this fast-flying beauty. Additionally, we used a double-running stitch to add texture and lifelike detail to the wings.
Once she’s ready to take flight, don’t forget to share using #MadeWithLia — and let your creativity soar with us!
Stitches used: Blanket stitch, whip stitch, double-running stitch, ladder stitch

Back to the TopIt will not let me download pattern?
Hi Lora, I just checked, and it looks like you did download the folder. Have you checked your computer’s download folder for the zipped folder? Double check and let me know.
The description above says there is wire inserted into the wings, but the tutorial only shows the wire in the beak. Is there supposed to be wire inserted into the wings?
Oh, it looks like the writer added that, but you are correct, only the beak has the wire. I will update the post.
