Another trick when using heavier paper on a less sticky mat is to tape the edges so it will not move while cutting. I do this with heavy crepe paper too. 🙂

Thank you! Washed it off and it’s back in service. After more experimenting, without complete success, I’ve decided to try a different watercolor paper. 🤞🏻

You might be able to save your mat by soaking off the paper. The sticky should be water resistant. For the watercolor paper, try using an older mat with less sticky. You can tape the edges to keep it from moving.

I’m quite new to paper crafts. I am attempting the cherry blossoms (my 6th Lia Griffith project), and have a problem. My watercolor paper does not release cleanly from the standard grip mat. An entire layer of fiber stayed on the mat (effectively ruining the mat). I am using a 90lb water color paper I already had in my “hoard”. Any suggestions / possible causes? I don’t want to ruin any more mats!
