Crepe Paper Peony
Can you believe crepe paper is making a comeback after all these years?
I’ve heard so many of our members say that they remember making crepe paper flowers with their grandma. And guess what? This vintage craft has come back into style in the last decade! Diving into the world of crepe paper flowers is like finding a crafting oasis. Trust me; you’re gonna love it!
For this project, we’ve selected the premium heavy crepe paper from the Lia Griffith collection. See the full list of tools and materials below.
The heavier crepe paper is great for holding the shape of these larger petals, and it is a great pick for those jumping into their first crepe paper craft, as it's exceptionally user-friendly.
However, we encourage you to utilize whatever crepe paper you have readily available. Just keep in mind that not all crepe papers are created equal, so the results may vary. But, don't let that stop you! No matter what kind of crepe paper you use, we've designed this flower to turn out absolutely beautiful.
You can either stock up in our shop or use crepe and materials from your craft stash. We want you to make use of what you have on hand. And hey, during the video, we'll even throw in some alternative options to keep things fun and flexible.
Let's get crafty, my friend! Hit that play button, and let's make some magic happen with crepe paper!
Remember, you can watch the video as many times as you like and pause if you want to do a make-along.

Back to the TopHi
I have you book with the templates in but do you have any tips or videos to show how best to hand cut them out? I’ve been trying to cut out the chrysanthemum centre petals template into crepe but it keeps slipping all over? Do you draw around the template to the crepe first hand if so do you use a pen or pencil?? Thank you
Hello Debbie! We are actually making a set of videos on this and similar steps right now! We will announce by email when they are ready, but in the meantime, this is what I do for hand cutting. (Newer technique since that book came out 7 years ago). I cut around the template loosely, not on the line. Use mini clips to secure the template to the crepe, then cut around with small detail scissors. You can also stack your crepe paper and cut a few layers at a time. Here is a video showing me cutting crepe, though it was before we discovered the clips. Let me know if you have any other questions. We are here to help. Also, we have a free YouTube workshop this Friday at noon if you want to pop in and ask any other questions in real time!
The Peony looks great! I have just ordered extra fine crepe paper with much difficulty but I got it YaY!
I had been sent this flower as an option, though, just checking in, I thought extra fine crepe is not the best option for this type of flower?
Better suited to a dainty small rose?
What do you think?
Brooke
Hello Brooke! This project uses the heavy crepe paper, however if you only have the extra-fine, I recommend doing a lamination technique to create the double-sided crepe paper. That would work great for this template. Here is a video where I show how to do the lamination technique. https://liagriffith.com/tips-tricks-for-lamination-and-diy-double-sided-crepe-paper/
Downloaded the crepe paper peony, but how big do I cut these pieces? Are they cut how it printed out? It looks really small!!
Hello Dolores, if you are looking at the PDF, make sure you have printed it a full size. Sometimes the printer will downsize to “fit page”. Let me know if you have any other questions along the way!
Hi,
I have managed to download the templates for each flower apart from the crepe paper one. Every time I try I get taken to this link:

Please can you help?
Many thanks
Donna
Hi Donna! Thanks for letting us know. I fixed the download, it should be working now. Go ahead and try again!
